UMID stands
for the Unified Multi-Purpose ID. UMID is a Philippine identity card which will
be the four-in-one ID card of all Social Security System(SSS), Government
Insurance System(GSIS), Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth),
and the Pag-IBIG Fund (Home Development Mutual Fund) members. UMID contains a
Common Reference Number (CRN) that serves as your unique identifier and the
same time, a link in the records of the participating agencies.
The UMID system is in compliance with Executive Order No. 420 dated April 13, 2005 which required all government agencies and government owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) to streamline and harmonize their identification systems, and Executive Order No. 700 dated January 16, 2008 which identified the social security identification system as the core of the UMID system and directed the SSS to implement the streamlining and harmonization of the ID systems of all government agencies and GOCCs.
SSS is the lead agency to issue the UMID since it has the most number of members among agencies. SSS will issue UMID cards to private sector workers. GSIS will enrol and issue UMID to public sector (government) workers. And to those not covered by SSS and GSIS, PhilHealth will cater to them.

UMID
is a very reliable identification card that contains biometric data
(fingerprints). Hence, it cannot be easily faked or replicated. The card also
has a microchip embedded in it and a magnetic strip on its back, in which
information about the cardholder may be stored. This enables the bearer to
easily facilitate transactions with the participating agencies. On the other
hand, the biometrics embedded helps to protect the agencies from fraud and
ensures that benefits are given to legal and rightful claimants and beneficiaries
only.
USE
OF UMID CARD
1. Used for transacting with the participating agencies. If the proposal will be
approved, it will also be used as a voter’s ID
2.
Convenience. Who
doesn’t want a multifunctional appliance? Convenience is the reason why we love
our smartphones that serves as our phone, camera, radio, computer, etc in one.
You do not need to apply for an SSS/GSIS, PhilHealth, PagIBIG ID individually.
Also, you do not need to keep three IDs with you everytime, so there will be
more space on your wallet.
3.
Fast and Easy transaction. UMID
is a widely acknowledge identification of the participating agencies. If you
are going to transact with any of the participating agencies without your UMID,
you might need to present other identifying documents. Unfortunately, not all
IDs are recognized as valid. For example, some agencies do not identify a
Police clearance as a valid identification, while some agencies need two or
more identifier. What if you only have your company ID the time of your
transaction?
4.
Some participating agencies have an information kiosk (SSS have this. By
swiping the card at a particular slot in the kiosk, a member can access his or
her records with the SSS, including the status of his or her benefits or loan
applications or actual contribution.
Soon..
UMID will be used as an ATM Card to encash their claims/benefits in the
participating agencies.
